Airtel Data Transfer Code and How to Use it

Not every subscriber can afford to buy MB almost every time which is why the airtel data transfer code was introduced which allows any of their users to share some of their own MB with other airtel users.

The code to gift and transfer data from one airtel line to another airtel sim card is *141*6#.

However, if you are using this code for the first time, it is recommended that you first change the PIN from the default 1234 to your own preferred 4-digit number. Follow the steps below.

How to Change Airtel Data Transfer PIN

  • Dial *141# from your Airtel SIM
  • Reply with 6 for Data Sharing / Gifting
  • Then reply with 1 to change the PIN
  • Enter the old PIN (which is 1234)
  • Enter your new PIN (Must be 4 digits in number)
  • Re-enter the new PIN to confirm.

If all the details you entered are correct, you will get an onscreen notification indicating that you have successfully changed your PIN.

Assuming you forget your PIN on Airtel Data Me2U or Data Gifting, you should simply call Airtel customer care on 141 for a PIN reset.

You must have noticed that I continuously used gift, share, and transfer.

While share and transfer can be used interchangeably, gifting is a whole different service on its own and you will understand them much better as you read on.

Always try and make sure you have enough data volume yourself before you share or transfer it. Here is a guide on how to check airtel data balance with ease.

How to Transfer Data from Airtel to Airtel Using Code

  • Dial *141# from your Airtel SIM
  • Reply with 5 for Data Sharing/Gifting
  • Then reply with 4 for Data Me2U
  • Reply with 2 to share data from the existing balance
  • Enter the recipient’s phone number
  • Then enter the amount of data you want to transfer in MB
  • Enter your PIN.

You will get an onscreen notification indicating that you have successfully transferred data to your recipient. An SMS will also be sent to you.

This is their main data transfer service as it allows you to send data from your data account to other Airtel users.

It is available for both prepaid and postpaid airtel customers, to use it, follow the laid-out steps.

Data bundles you can transfer range from daily, weekly, and monthly to mega data bundles on the Me2U platform.

Validity

The data you share with others is valid for as long as the data plan you bought is. For example, if you bought the Airtel 1GB data plan which is valid for 30 days, and share 200MB with a person, the 200MB will be valid for that same 30 days period the 1GB plan is.

Airtel Data Transfer Limits

There are some limitations associated with using this service to share data with others and they are listed below.

  • The maximum amount of data you can transfer in a day is 400MB
  • The maximum amount of data you can transfer to a particular person in a day is 200MB
  • The maximum amount of people you can transfer data to in a day is 2.
  • You cannot send data twice to a particular person unless the person has exhausted the first data you sent.

That’s all for the Me2U data transfer, let’s look at the next and find out how you can gift data.

How to Gift Data on Airtel Network

This is the service that allows you to buy data for other Airtel users i.e, you pay for data with your airtime but the data goes to the account of a beneficiary.

  • Dial *141# from your Airtel SIM
  • Reply with 6 for Data Sharing/Gifting
  • Then reply with 2 for Data Gifting
  • Select the data plan you want to gift (Daily, Weekly, Monthly, and Mega data plans are all available)
  • Enter the recipient’s phone number
  • Enter your PIN.

You will get an onscreen notification indicating that you have successfully gifted data to your recipient. An SMS will also be sent to you.

If you want to transfer 1GB of data from Airtel to Airtel in Nigeria, this is the method you will use.

Gifting Validity

The data you gift is valid for as long as the data plan is. For example, if you purchased the Airtel 1GB data plan which is valid for 30 days as a gift, it will still be valid for 30 days when the recipient gets it.

Gifting Limit

There are no limits associated with using the Airtel data gifting service to gift data to others. Just as you can purchase data bundles for yourself as many times as you need to in a day, you can also gift data as many times as you want to.

Final Thought

If you provide the wrong PIN five times, your SIM will be barred from using the two services for an hour. When this happens for the third time, your line will be barred from using the service until you call customer care.

If you have been in a situation where you do not have data but you really need to use the internet, you would agree with me that it is not nice. Fortunately, people can now share or gift each other with data using the information provided in this write-up.
