Airtel Smart Talk Tariff Plan: Migration Code and Call Rate

One of the best and most straightforward tariff plans on this network is airtel smart talk and over the course of this write-up, I will explain how it works from call rate to how to migrate to it.

It allows you to call all networks at the same call rate but there is one caveat and that is a 7 Naira daily access fee which will automatically be charged on your first call of the day.

You also get to buy 1.5GB of data for 500 Naira which is an offer available only on smart talk and smart Trybe.

As a matter of fact, smart talk and smart Trybe are very similar with only one discrepancy. While smart talk has a daily access fee of 7 Naira, smart trybe has a call rate of 25 k/Sec for the first 50 seconds before it reduces to 11 K/Sec which is the same as what you will get on smart talk but from the very 1st second.

Airtel Smart Talk Migration Code

Dial *315# to migrate. It is free if you have not migrated in the last 30 days otherwise, you will be charged 100 Naira.

Airtel Smart Talk Call Rate

11 Kobo per Second to all local networks in Nigeria while international calls are charged at a standard rate for each country.

Let’s do some talk time calculations to determine how long it will take to use an airtime recharge value of 100 Naira up to 1000 Naira.

But first, let’s convert the call rate to Naira per Minute from Kobo per Second.

  • 11 kobo – 1 second
  • X – 60 second

X = 60 x 11 = 660 Kobo per minute

But,

  • 1 Naira – 100 kobo
  • X – 660 Kobo

X = 660 / 100 = 6.6 Naira

Now let us calculate the talk time.

Airtel Smart Talk Talktime

100 Naira Airtime

  • After Daily Access Fee = 100 – 7 = 93 Naira
  • Talktime = 93 / 6.6 = 14 minutes 5 seconds

200 Naira Airtime

  • After Daily Access Fee = 200 – 7 = 193 Naira
  • Talktime = 193 / 6.6 = 29 minutes 14 seconds

300 Naira Airtime

  • After Daily Access Fee = 300 – 7 = 293
  • Talktime = 293 / 6.6 = 44 minutes 23 seconds

500 Naira Airtime

  • After Daily Access Fee = 500 – 7 = 493 Naira
  • Talktime = 493 / 6.6 = 74 minutes 42 seconds

1000 Naira Airtime

  • After Daily Access Fee = 1000 – 7 = 993 Naira
  • Talktime = 993 / 6.6 = 150 minutes 27 seconds

What if you can exhaust 1000 Naira airtime in a single day. If it takes 2 days, that’s a daily access fee of 14 Naira and if it took you 3 days, that is a daily access fee of 21 Naira.

So, let’s use the same calculation as above to see how the daily access fee really affects the call rate.

  • After Daily Access Fee (2 days) = 1000 – 14 = 986 Naira
  • Talktime = 986 / 6.6 = 149 Naira 23 seconds

And

  • After Daily Access Fee (3 days) = 1000 – 21 = 979 Naira
  • Talktime = 979 / 6.6 = 148 minutes 20 seconds

Final Thought

Thanks to the talk time calculation, we were able to prove that airtel smart talk might be slightly different from smartTrybe but they have exact same talk time.

What this means is that you will be enjoying the same value on your airtime on both tariff plans. Recharging 100 Naira on both plans allows you to talk for over 14 minutes.

This remains true, so far you finish the airtime in a day on smart talk.

Because, if you can’t, the daily access fee is going to make things a little bit complicated and the talk time will eventually become less than that of smart trybe.

In essence, what I am saying is that you might be better off as an airtel smart trybe plan subscriber than smart talk.

To deactivate smart talk, just migrate to another airtel call plan by dialing the preferred plan’s migration code.
