MTN Beep: How to Use and Stop the Service

So, you do not have airtime but you have to call someone and it is urgent. What do you do? Before now, you borrow airtime or send a call me back SMS or find airtime by all means. Well, what if I tell you that you don’t have to do any of those anymore following the launch of mtn beep by the telecom giant.

Yes, I know you want to know all about this beep service right now and that won’t be a problem because that is exactly what this write-up is all about.

As we all know, some of the time, not having airtime on your sim card doesn’t mean you can’t afford to buy it. Sometimes, it just means the network is bad and you don’t want to leave where you to go and buy a recharge card, or maybe even the weather isn’t favorable for that too.

In this situation, most people are left frustrated and numerous Nigerians (at least many of the ones I know) aren’t comfortable with using the call me back feature which is somehow similar to the beep service just that instead of calls, call me uses SMS.

Well, below is an alternative way to handle such a situation.

How Does MTN Beep Work?

Beep is a voice service launched by MTN Nigeria that allows its customers to flash or drop a missed call notification on any local number be it MTN, Airtel, Glo, or 9mobile when they have zero balance or insufficient credit required to make such a call.

Basically, all you have to do is call the number you want to flash as you would normally if you had airtime and wait for the message telling you that you have insufficient balance to complete before terminating the call.

What happens is that the person you are trying to reach will receive a missed call at their end and mtn will notify you that you have successfully flashed the particular number with the time-stamped.

This way, the person will know you are trying to get through and will call you back and everybody wins.

Yes, it is that easy. Note that this only works when you have zero balance or the airtime you have aren’t enough to initiate a call at all. Also, you can only use this service 20 times per day.

How to Stop / Deactivate MTN Beep Service

To opt-out of this service, all you have to do is recharge your mtn line and it will automatically stop dropping missed calls for people on your behalf since you can now make a call with your credit/airtime.

Final Thought

This is really a welcome development from MTN Nigeria. It is really a win-win situation for everybody. Because you don’t have to be stranded and when the person calls back mtn also wins.

This works for all calls be it mtn to mtn or mtn to other networks such as Airtel, 9mobile, and Glo.

For those that do not want to receive this kind of missed call on their device. Well, there is nothing you can do about it really.

You have to wait for the person to use all the eligible beep they have for the day without you responding but you better have a good explanation for them when next you meet them.

I hope you find this write-up useful and I wish you a happy using mtn beep service.
