MTN Pulse Tariff Plan: How to Migrate, Call Rate, Data, and Benefits

MTN Pulse is unarguably one of the top tariff plans on the network and I am not talking about just the cheap call rate but also the data benefits that accompany it.

Pulse is one of the oldest plans on mtn and also the most feature-rich tariff. Most Nigerians that I know using mtn are on this plan.

MTN Pulse Tariff Plan

The below benefits and a cheap call rate are why most people are finding it hard to leave the Pulse plan for another call plan.

  1. Cheaper Data Bundles: 300 Naira for 750MB (*406*6#) and 500 Naira for 1.5GB (*406*2#). Valid for 3 days and 7 days respectively
  2. Nightlife Bundles: 25 Naira for 250MB (NT1 to 131) and 50 Naira for 500MB (NT2 to 131). Usable in a night between 11 pm and 6 am the next morning. You should check my write-up about how to subscribe to mtn night plan and get up to 2GB on a SIM card per night as well as how to get the best out of the plan.
  3. IG & TikTok Plans: 350MB for 100 Naira (INSTD1 to 131) and 1GB for 200 Naira (INSTD2 to 131). Valid for 24 hours and 7 days respectively
  4. Points: 1 point is equivalent to 1 Naira airtime and you can use it to purchase data bundles your balance can afford. You can redeem your Pulse points to buy data.

MTN Pulse Call Rate

Call rate is the amount you will be charged per second of calls you made and for Pulse plan, it is 27 kobo per second for the first 60 seconds after which it drops to 11.26 kobo per second.

Let’s do the Talktime calculations and see how long it will take to exhaust 100 Naira up to 1000 Naira airtime.

First, let’s convert the call rates to Naira per minute from Kobo per second.

  • 27 kobo – 1 second
  • X – 60 seconds

X = 1620 kobo per minute

  • 1 Naira – 100 kobo
  • X – 1620 kobo

First 60 Seconds Call Rate = 1620 / 100 = 16.2 Naira per Minute

Likewise,

  • 11.26 kobo – 1 second
  • X – 60 seconds

X = 675.6 kobo per minute

  • 1 Naira – 100 kobo
  • X – 675.6 kobo

Call Rate After First Minute = 6.756 Naira per minute

MTN Pulse Talk Time

Below is a calculation of how long it will take you to exhaust an airtime value of 100, 200, 300, 500, and 1000 Naira.

100 Naira Airtime

  • First 60 seconds = 100 – 16.2 = 83.8 Naira
  • After 1st minute of the day = 83.8 / 6.756 = 12.40 minutes

Total Talktime = 60 seconds (1 minute) + 12.40 minutes = 13 minutes 24 seconds

200 Naira Airtime

  • First 60 seconds = 200 – 16.2 = 183.8 Naira
  • After 1st minute of the day = 183.8 / 6.756 = 27.21 minutes

Total Talktime = 60 seconds + 27.21 minutes = 28 minutes 12 seconds

300 Naira Airtime

  • First 60 seconds = 300 – 16.2 = 283.8 Naira
  • After 1st minute of the day = 283.8 / 6.756 = 42.01 minutes

Total Talktime = 60 seconds + 42.01 minutes = 43 minutes

500 Naira Airtime

  • First 60 seconds = 500 – 16.2 = 483.8 Naira
  • After 1st minute of the day = 483.8 / 6.756 = 71.61 minutes

Total Talktime = 60 seconds + 71.61 minutes = 72 minutes 37 seconds

1000 Naira Airtime

  • First 60 seconds = 1000 – 16.2 = 983.3 Naira
  • After 1st minute of the day = 983.8 / 6.756 = 145.62 minutes

Total Talktime = 60 seconds + 145.62 minutes = 146 minutes 37 seconds

How to Migrate to MTN Pulse

  1. Using Code: Dial *406*1# or Dial *123*2*2#
  2. Using SMS: Send 406 to 131 as an SMS.

Final Thought on mtn pulse

It is really hard to choose any other mtn tariff plans over pulse with the mouth-watering offers that come with the tariff from night plan to social media bundles and points rewards which you can use to purchase data later.

At this point, Pulse might gradually be migrating from being a tariff plan with data benefits to a data plan with cheap call rates.

As you can see from the Talktime calculation above, pulse allows you to talk for 13 and a half minutes with just 100 Naira airtime.
