MTN TruTalk Tariff: How to Migrate, Benefits, and Call Rate

If you looking for a tariff plan that is good for making calls, then mtn trutalk is what you are really looking for. This write-up is about how to migrate, call rate, Talktime calculations, and benefits.

To be clear, the telecom giant named this tariff plan TruTalk but a lot of Nigerians have turned it to True Talk. So whichever way you chose to write it down, the pronunciation remains the same.

Now, back to it. MTN True Talk is one of those plans with some details you might want to pay close attention to as listed below but nevertheless, it is a great plan. You can easily compare it to tariff plans like MTN Pulse for its call rate and talk time but not data or overall.

There is a daily access fee of 7.17 Naira. This fee will automatically be deducted immediately after you initiate your first call of the day. If you receive a call or didn’t make a call at all, you will not be charged this fee.

Another thing you want to give your attention to is that when you have less than 7.17 Naira as your airtime balance, your call rate will increase as explained later in this write-up.

How to Migrate to MTN TruTalk

  • Using Code: Dial *123*2*6#. Migration to true talk is free.
  • Using SMS: An alternative means of migrating is to text TT to 131.

MTN TruTalk Call Rate

You will be charged 11.26 kobo per second to call all local numbers in Nigeria which include other mtn numbers, Glo, Airtel, and 9mobile lines. However, if you have less than 7.17 Naira for the daily access fee, your call rate will increase to 15.36 kobo/sec.

Now, let’s do some call rate and Talktime calculations to see how long it will take you to use 100 Naira up to 1000 Naira airtime while making calls to all local lines in Nigeria.

Let’s convert our rate to Naira/min from kobo/sec.

  • 11.26 kobo – 1 second
  • X- 60 seconds

X = 675.6 kobo

  • 1 Naira – 100 kobo
  • X – 675.6 kobo

X = 675.6 / 100 = 6.756 Naira / minute.

MTN True Talk Talktime

100 Naira Airtime

After Daily Access Fee = 100 – 7.17 = 92.83 Naira

Talktime = 92.83 / 6.756 = 13 minutes 44 seconds

200 Naira Airtime

After Daily Access Fee = 200 – 7.17 = 192.83 Naira

Talktime = 192.83 / 6.756 = 28 minutes 32 seconds

300 Naira Airtime

After Daily Access Fee = 300 – 7.17 = 292.83

Talktime = 292.83 / 6.756 = 43 minutes 20 seconds

500 Naira Airtime

After Daily Access Fee = 500 – 7.17 = 492.83 Naira

Talktime = 72 minutes 57 seconds

1000 Naira Airtime

After Daily Access Fee = 1000 – 7.17 = 992.83 Naira

Talktime = 992.83 / 6.756 = 146 minutes 57 seconds.

Final Thought

I didn’t do the Talktime calculation for the call rate that applies when you do not have up to the daily access fee in your account because it is less than a minute and you are better off buying airtime to continue enjoying this tariff.

One of the top benefits of mtn trutalk is the cheap call rate to all local numbers in Nigeria. It put you on par with the likes of mtn Pulse call plan.

It is a pity though that true talk doesn’t give a bonus in form of airtime and data. So, it is just the cheap call rate that translates to high talk time.
